Prime Minister of São Tomé ends visit to Angola

Luanda, ANGOLA, February 27 - São Tomé and Príncipe's Prime Minister Jorge Bom Jesus left Angolan on Wednesday afternoon after a 48-hour working visit to strengthen relations of friendship and of cooperation between the two countries.,

The Sao Tomean official, who was in Angola at the invitation of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, received goodbay greatings at the 4 de Fevereiro International Airport by the Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources, Diamantino Azevedo, and other Angolan officials.

 

During his stay in Luanda, Jorge Bom Jesus was received at the Presidential Palace by the Angolan statesman, who expressed his interest in establishing "a strategic partnership with reciprocal advantages and a new era of cooperation".

 

He held separate meetings with Angolan Foreign Minister, Manuel Augusto, with the São Toméan community living in Luanda, and with business people from both countries.

 

In 1995, Angola and Sao Tome and Principe signed an Agreement for the Reciprocal Protection of Investments with a view to creating favorable conditions for stimulating private initiatives and intensifying economic cooperation between the two States.

 

As part of this partnership, some Angolan investments were made in São Tomé and Príncipe, including the purchase in 1990 of the Rosema brewery, through an investment made through an international public tender by entrepreneur Melo Xavier.

 

In December 2018, Jorge Bom Jesus sent a message to the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, where he expressed his country's willingness to begin a new cycle of cooperation in various areas.

 

The two countries cooperate in the political, diplomatic and economic fields, are members of the Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), the Economic Community of Central African States (CEEAC) and the Portuguese Speaking African Countries (PALOP).
